Designing Your Dream Room
If you could decorate your own room ANY WAY YOU WANTED TO, how would you do it? Imagine that you had $4,000 to spend to totally decorate your dream bedroom! That’s a lot of money to decorate with! In order to ensure that you stay on budget, however, you will need to create a table to keep track of your spending. Keep in mind furniture, paint, decorations, bedding, etc.
Start by making your table. In order for your table to be organized, you need to have enough columns to include the name of the thing you are purchasing, the website you found it at, the color and size of your choice, as well as the cost of the object. The list of prices should be totaled at the bottom of your table. In order to do this, use a FORMULA. On Microsoft Word, a formula can be entered into a cell by clicking on the “Layout” tab at the end of the ribbon. All the way to the left is a box that is titled “Data.” Make sure your cursor is in the appropriate cell and click the “Formula” button. When the box pops up, type in: =sum(above) and click “OK.” Your sum should then appear in that cell. Make sure you have a title at the top, as well as your name.
As you "buy" things, enter them into your table. Remember to consider things like flooring, wallpaper/paint, a mattress, etc. Also, remember this is your DREAM bedroom; be creative!!! But be careful, don’t go over your budget! All right! Start looking through the websites and "shop away!"
Once you have finished your shopping list, use Microsoft Word to create a floor plan of your newly designed bedroom! Use Microsoft Word’s drawing tools as well as copy and pasted clip art images of your purchased items to create a visual of your new room! (Example below)
